Hi Friend of The River Fund Maine,

The scholars are off to school, favorite Fall events return, and our programs expand. With the first few weeks of the semester under their belts, we're checking in with our scholars, Luci and Dylan, gearing up for Fall Festival Weekend at Sunday River, and hosting our third Design Thinking Workshop with Telstar High School & Gould Academy students this November.

Meet The River Fund Maine Scholars

Dylan Greenberg - Rochester Institute of Technology

I’ve been having a blast these first few weeks.  In my computer engineering lab we are studying boolean algebra, and I joined Judo club. I also joined Computer Science House (CSH), a Special Interest Housing community, and have been working on a lot of projects (most of which can be seen on csh.rit.edu).  My two current projects are upgrading the electronic hardware in Drink, a networked vending machine system that CSH members can access through their accounts, and the floor’s custom arcade machines so members can create and upload custom games. Lots of awesome stuff happens here; anything from spontaneous seminars on web application concepts to Minecraft bot competitions.

Luci Rothwell - Husson University

After a short, fun-filled summer up here in Bangor, keeping myself busy with working, online courses, and visiting family, I am finally in my first few weeks of classes! This year is my third year credit-wise, which means it is also my first official year of occupational therapy graduate school! Along with this comes many challenging classes strictly geared towards my occupational therapy career, which only excites me! I am preparing for my Level One clinical experience for next semester, which would include going into a facility to analyze and familiarize myself with a real-life occupational therapy setting.

.5K - Dry Land Training

As you fit-check your gear, and dust off the Thule, the pre-season prep work has just begun. Following The North American Wife Carrying Championships on October 9th, The River Fund Maine will transform South Ridge Base Area into the dry land training experience necessary to prepare for the 21/22 season.

Dare to Dream Workshop

TRFM workshops offer students a life-changing experience in creative problem-solving using the acclaimed Design Thinking methodology. Developed by Stanford University, Design Thinking takes a real-life problem and challenges teams of students to develop a solution. This November's workshop focuses on Arts & Culture.
